This is a highlight video we produced to showcase Cynthia Pinckney Ministries on January 18, 2009.
Superbowl tech
primarily due to the screen set-up. Here is a list of TECH resources and
where they will be acquired from. If you think something is missing, please
advise.
1. Video Projector (floater from S.H.)
2. Screen - already in B&G, need power/controller from shed
3. Long S-video or composite cables - Chapel booth has most of the long
cables now.
* We may need "barrels" if we are short. It is easier to put the tuner
by the sound and run one cable to the projector, than to put the tuner by
the projector and run two long cables to the PA.
4. Long COAX antenna cable to put antenna outside - upstairs Sanctuary
mech. room
5. Extension cords - green box from Sanctuary booth
6. Digital converter box - from Sanctuary booth (don't forget the
remote!)
7. Antenna - from Sanctuary booth
8. Sound system - need to discuss with Robin. I don't think any of us
will find the Passport adequate.

This Sunday and Training

The will be another video played like you've seen over the past few week. We
will also have a guest speaker - Don Caldwell. And at the end of the service
there will be a time to bring your financial commitments to the altar. I
will make sure to allow the crew time to participate in this if they wish.
CG Training!
We have purchased the long overdue replacement for Prologue Sunday Plus -
Media Shout! Jay and Janeen and I have been working through the tutorials,
and this coming Sunday we will be using it for Worship. It is different that
SundayPlus, in a better way.
So, this Wednesday, in the Sanctuary we will have training from 6:30-7:30
p.m., earlier if you're available. I will have several computers available
so we can have as much "hands on" practice as possible.
If you a regularly a CG operator, I encourage you to download the demo
version from www.medishout.com <http://www.medishout.com/> and install it
on your computer (please read the minimum requirements on their site.)
Please go through the tutorials before the Wednesday training if at all
possible. It will work for 30 days.
Please attend if at all possible. If another time will work better for you,
please call me or e-mail me to set up a personal training time.

* Friday, October 3 - GFU: God, Family and U service in the gym. We'll
need help with CG (PowerPoint), Lights, sound and cameras. I would like to
shoot this one in it's entirety like a service this time.
* Friday October 31 - GFU: God Family and U service in the gym. We're
having two GFUs this month, to support it and the Trunk 'n Treat. Same needs
as above plus I'd like to shoot some b-roll of the Trunk n' Treat event,
too.

Tech News and oppurtunities
Katie and I were home by 11:30. It is good to be home. I will be putting
together a long form video from the pics and footage soon.
But things didn't stop around here while I was gone. There are a few big
projects on the horizon.
Sanctuary Stage Reset - July 28 & 29
Jeff and Howard are resetting/rearranging the sanctuary stage on Monday,
July 28, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. If you are available during that time to help
move risers and equipment, it would be greatly appreciated. Help during the
Day on Tuesday, July 19, may be needed as well. Please e-mail if you can
help.
Chapel Equipment Installation - August 3 & 4
Jeff has also scheduled the following Monday, August 4, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. for
installing the new sound and A/V gear in the chapel. I am also looking for
volunteers on Sunday August 3, from 1:30 p.m. - approx. 6 p.m. to help run
cable under the floor in the Chapel. We will run the snake through the
tunnel, and run some A/V cable under the stage for the projector and such.
Time permitting; we may begin to install equipment in the booth.
Sanctuary Lighting and Video System Reset - TBD - Tentative August 10
This project is still TBD, due to waiting on parts for the new switcher. But
it will be scheduled soon. We will be installing the new switcher, but while
we do that we will be re-arranging the positions and their locations. And
since some of the gear is trickling down to the chapel, work over there will
happen concurrently or simultaneously.

Katie and I are going on the mission trip to the Dominican Republic, July
14-20. That week is VBS and I will need someone to come in from 8-noon every
day to fire up the system and possibly run CG, too. Training will be

The June 18th rehearsal will give you a chance to see and hear the show. I
will have draft cues ready fro you to make notes on. June 25th is dress
rehearsal.

Camera Training - Multiple Choices
I will be offering camera training the next three Wednesdays at 7 p.m. We
will take 30 minutes explaining the controls of the camera, tripod, and
Camera Control Unit (CCU). Then we will have 30 minutes of "free practice"
time to have a try at shooting while the choir is rehearsing.
You must attend one of these classes before the next time your team is up.
Please RSVP so we make sure everyone gets a chance to practice.

Help Needed!! - Cable Pull - Saturday May 31, 2008, 9 a.m.
Much must be done before we can begin using the new cameras. I need help
running the cables through the ceilings to get them to the camera locations.
The maintenance department will help us get through some of the hard to
reach areas, and make sure we don't make too many holes (just kidding). We
will also run cables to the narthex and hallways for some big screen LCDs
that will be used to display announcements.
This is just the beginning of what will be a very busy summer for the
Technical Arts. I appreciate all of your help.

Sunday A.M. Crew Rotation
I am sorry for not getting the rotation out - nothing new, I know. I offer
some new options:
* If you would like to serve either more often, or not at all three
services, your only positions will be camera or may "apprentice" CG, Video
Director, or Lighting - subject to availability and crew "fullness."
* If you wish to be a Video Director, or CG Operator, you must be at
all three services.
* If you are CG, Video Director, or Lighting Director, you must be
early enough to check out your cue sheet notes before 7:30 talk through.
This way you can look for items which you might have questions on and I can
answer them during talk through.
Please e-mail me ASAP to sign up. Remember to note which services you are
available, or if you want to be "on" more often. The three week rotation,
and tentative teams are below:
* Team B - April 13 - Jim, Jay, Mark
* Team C - April 20 - Katie, Sue

Help is also needed with "The Rock" and Children's ministry events on Sunday

New Opportunity!
The Music department and I are looking for a few more "Event Techs" to
assist with programs and meetings that may require additional support from
our areas. Job responsibilities may include:
* Turning on and operating sound system
* Turning on and/or setting up a video projector and related equipment
* Tearing down and putting away any of the above equipment or systems
An example might be coming in and setting up the chapel projector and sound
system for a group to watch a DVD on Saturday a.m. Training will be
required. Dates for training will be set soon.

Communications Road Show Begins in January
registered for the Orlando event. If anyone else want to go, we can car
pool.
Communications Road Show begins next January
In an effort to provide resources to local churches on a more direct basis,
Florida United Methodist Communications will be hitting the road in 2008,
offering training workshops on a variety of communication tools.
"The Communications Road Show" will visit four areas of the Florida
Conference, offering the same six workshops at each venue, designed to
assist and improve communications in a local church setting.
The Road Show's purpose is to offer people throughout the conference tips
and "best practices" on how their communications ministries can be improved.
Each Road Show stop will offer workshops for clergy and laity, church
administrators, church volunteers in communications ministry and those just
thinking about getting started.
Workshop topics include:
• Web Casting
• Getting Started with your Pod Cast
• Planning for Print
• Web Development 101
• Data Management 101
• Crisis Communication for Clergy
Each Road Show will start at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and light snacks. A brief
opening worship will be at 10 a.m., and the first round of workshops will
begin at 10:30 a.m. A lunch, available for $10, will be served from noon
until 1 p.m. (If you want lunch, you must sign up for it when you register;
payment for lunch will be collected at the door.) The second round of
workshops--the mornings offerings repeated--will start at 1 p.m. The day
will end no later than 3 p.m.
Locations of the Road Show and dates are:
• Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 - First United Methodist Church, Lake City
• Saturday, Feb. 9 - Peace United Methodist Church, Orlando
• Saturday, March 8 - First United Methodist Church, Sebring

Hello everyone! There are lots of opportunities coming up. Most urgently is
I need just a couple more crew members to help with the Advent festival
service this coming Saturday. The following have already signed up for the
Advent Festival Service:

and I want to change the gel colors on the lights to something more seasonal

Call for Help for Hoedown - Crew For October 28
Tomorrow, Thursday, Jeff, Robin, Howard and I will be heading out to the Boggy Bottom to set up for the Harvest Hoedown. If anyone is available to meet us here at 1 pm, or at Lupton's at around 2 pm, it would be appreciated.
If you are going to be there, you can find me if you want to "shoot" some of the goings on.

The Wood family is planning a sort-of non-traditional service to celebrate
Jeff's life. Jan called me today and asked if I could video tape it. I would

Student Ministries Kick Off
Even if you haven't been involved with Student Ministries in the past,
please join us at 1 pm in the Boys & Girls Club for set up. And then stay
for the 5 pm program. We will next extra adult helpers to "induct" the new
sixth grade class.
Wednesday Night Service Opportunities.
Wednesday Night will offer new volunteer opportunities, different from those
we have had in the past. From 6:15-6:45-ish Jeff and his team will lead us
in a little bit of worship time in the gym. After that, at 6:45 the
Children's Ministry is starting a new Family Service. We will need sound,
CG, and possibly video camera support for this event every week. Let me know
if you can help. All ages welcome!
Don't forget to sign yourself and your family up for the new church
pictorial directory!

Student Tech News - Fall is coming quickly!
Hey everybody,
I want to challenge all of you, students especially, to raise the bar this
fall. I would like us to do a lot more technical creative things - videos,
light, stage decorations - for Student Ministries.
It starts with you being available. I will make sure that we have the video
camera at every event, but I want YOU GUYS to be the ones shooting. And then
we need to talk about getting together once a month or so to put together
highlight videos. I'll post them up on YouTube and the blog so you can show
your friends how cool our Student Ministry really is. Mike might even let us
post his messages.
The next is coming early. I would like us to figure out some cool stage and
light designs that we can use to enhance the worship services, but that
means you guys have to be there at 2:30 pm on Sundays to get it all done
before the rest of the students show up. It may even need to be earlier if
we get really complicated.
And third, what are you passionate about that you would like to write a
video for? Or what upcoming theme night inspires you with a creative vision?
Share them with me and the team, and we can all shoot and edit it together.

If you are interested in learning CG (or Computer Graphics - the words and
stuff on the screen), please let me know or feel free to come in when it is
NOT your Sunday to learn.
*Wed Nights are coming
While there isn't technically a "worship service" set for Wednesdays this
fall, there may be some technical needs. Please e-mail me if you are
interested and available to serve on Wednesday nights from 5:30-6:30 or
6:30-7:45 or both.
The plan for Wednesdays is a multi-track elective study. You can choose, in
four week increments, which class or study to attend. I will plan some tech
training for some of those weeks.

New Guidelines - New Rotation - Crew for May 13
Here are the new Technical Arts Volunteer Guidelines For Sunday Morning
Teams. Please read them and I will send the new rotation soon. If your
availability has been affected by these new guidelines, please let me know
ASAP.
1. Belong: Please be a "participating member" of our church by attending at
least three Sunday morning services a month, the Sunday you serve can be
included, however it only counts as one service, not three. Attendance
consistency may affect positions on "special teams" and is a requirement for
team captains. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
2. Respect: Please respect God and His house.
- Dress appropriately. Remember, you are serving in God's house, and we
honor Him by dressing professionally. No shorts, no t-shirts, and no
flip-flops.
- No food in the sanctuary at any time. Only drinks with lids are allowed,
and only if you have a "desk" position.
- Clean up after yourself. Throw away your cue sheets, trash, etc. before
you leave.
3. Serve: Please serve your schedule.
- Please make yourself available for ALL three services, unless you have a
Sunday school class where absences counts against you (such as
confirmation). Exceptions will be few, and on a case-by-case basis.
- Please be on time. The normal call time is 7:30 am on Sunday. This gives
time to explain the elements of the service, and for questions to be asked
about the service or equipment.
- If you are not able to work your scheduled Sunday, please find a
replacement or trade with another volunteer. Also please notify Stuart as
soon as possible.

Special Tech Opportunities
McLane Middle School is holding their annual Awards Ceremony in our
Sanctuary on Thursday May 3. Since it is a full house for this event, they
have requested that we have IMAG on the side screens (That is, to have live
cameras of what is happening). They will also have a "PowerPoint"
presentation for walk-in. If you can help at this event with cameras, please
be here no later that 6:30 pm, May 3. I also would like to turn this into a
fund-raiser by selling DVDs of the events to parents, etc (pending approval
by the necessary people). But that will require a full crew. Please e-mail
me if you can help!
Spring Sound Seminars
Robin will be having a series of 4 different classes covering the main
aspects of sound mixing for music groups. Please sign up on the clipboard in
the music dept. hallway (across from Desi's office) or e-mail me. They will
be Saturdays, May 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 1pm til ??. Come and learn the new
board! I believe that is is highly recommended that you attend them in
order, but not necessary.

Technical Arts Special Report!
Membership Class, Sunday April 29, 11 AM

This is a big event! Last year it was standing room only. I would like a full crew for this; we want to be able to do IMAG, and make DVDs available for parents. There also may be some video or "PowerPoint" presentations to play back.Summer Stuff!
July 1 Service
We will need a full crew for this event. We are tentatively going to have only one service. This will be a special team event, with extra crew. Rehearsals would be Monday and Tuesday (June 25 & 26) at 7:00 pm, and Wednesday June 27 at 7:30 pm.Vacation Bible School - July 9-13, 8 am - 12:30-ish
Please consider volunteering with Technical Arts for VBS this year. We need lights, CG, and even cameras for the opening and closing sessions each day. In addition, we will be shooting footage of all the fun on campus each day, and compiling "dailies." Parents will be able to pre-order copies of this to help support the Technical Arts. A great chance to learn to shoot and edit.Don't forget the Blog!
