Wow! What a Weekend for Tech! & Christmas Eve Crew

*** Lots of important Stuff, please READ!!!***
Cantata a Success
Awesome job everyone. We had a packed weekend and everything went great. The "cantata" was received very well. People thought the we did a great job. So thanks to the whole team, Katie, Rick, John, Robin, Andrew, Mark, Jim, Ralph and Jay.

B&G Club Rocks the House!
And WOW!  I say again WOW! How can I describe the Student Luau? I can't. And it wouldn't have happen without everyone's help. There are too many to name, I would be afraid I'd miss someone. But I do want to send a BIG thanks to Robin fro the sound system. It would not have been a "rock concert" without the PA!
Also a big thanks to those who worked so hard lifting and setting up the lights. Everyone, even a few who were skeptical, agreed that the night would not have been same without the lighting. Again, SO many people helped with that, and I'm sure several of them are even more sore than I am this morning!
The next big night for Students will be the Super bowl Party. And look for a lighting work day in the future for the sanctuary.

News and Crew For Sunday December 10

Sunday December 10 Crew - Winter Team A
This Sunday, there are a couple special things happening. First, the bells are playing at 8 and 11 AM services. Second, the children are performing at the 9:30 AM service. They will also be doing all the tech, so most of you will get a break at 9:30. If you would like to help mentor a child on tech, please feel free to stay and help, otherwise meet at the stage immediately after the 9:30 service to reset the stage for the 11:00 service. Thanks.
  • Lighting Director: Jared
  • Video Director: Rick and Cory (8)(training)
  • CG: Jay
  • Cameras: Ralph (8&11), Michael (8)
Help! Help! This Just In!
I was asked by Julie Robaus to have tech support for a rehearsal of the Children's Musical on Thursday, 6:30-8:00 pm. This is open to Team Captains and other highly experienced volunteers. You need to know how to turn on all the systems, video direct, and be a general supervisor. Please e-mail if you can help. Thank You.

News and Events For December 2006

Work Day
Thank you to everyone who helped on the Gym project on Saturday. I really appreciate it. I will be looking for possibly some week night work times to finish it, probably a Thursday. If you have Thursday nights free, please let me know. It won't take a lot of time or people to finish.

New Rotation and Calendar Notes
I haven't heard anyone who wants to step down, and I am very thankful for that. I wanted to let you know of a few events before I publish the new calendar.
  • December 2 - 7:00 pm - Advent Festival Program. There will be a brief (30 minute) program in the sanctuary. If anyone would like to come to run CG, cameras, lights, or video direct, I am sure the Family Life Committee would appreciate how that may enhance the evening. This is totally optional. I jus thought it would be nice to document the event. Please let me know if you can help. It would be 6:30-7:45 for the crew.
  • December 10 - 9:30 AM Children's Musical. The Children will be doing many of the tech positions for the 9:30 service, so most of the "regular" crew will have a break. I would those of you who would like, to mentor and teach the kids on their positions - give them tips and pointers. There is an optional (for you) rehearsal on December 8 at 6:30, if you would like to train then, too.
  • December 17, 9:30 and 11:00 am - Adult Christmas Musical. This will be the big production of the season. I will need a full crew with spots for the program. Rehearsals are Dec. 11 at 7:00 pm, Dec. 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm. The requirement is that you can make at least the 12 and 13 rehearsals. Directors must make all rehearsals. See me for a CD. Regular rotation crew will be replaced by the "special team" crew. More details to come.
  • December 24 - Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve falls on Sunday this year, the services and needs for that day are as follows.
    • NO 8 AM Service
    • Normal 9:30 AM service with Children's feature songs.
    • Normal 11:00 AM service with Two Choir features
    • 7:00 PM Choir and Orchestra (3 Features). Not really a "family-targeted" service, but there will be video overflow for kids and parents. There will be candlelight.
    • 11:00 PM Bells/Communion/Candlelight
  • December 31 - Normal three Sunday AM Services
Crew For Sunday
Here is the crew for Sunday.
  • Producer: Jared
  • Lighting Director: Rick
  • Video Director: Stuart
  • CG: Jay
  • Cameras: Ralph (all 3), Cory (8&9:30), Michael (8&9:30)

Also, we may need help at 11 AM this Sunday.

Work Day - November 11, 9 AM

A work day is scheduled for Saturday November 11th, at 9 AM until 4? pm. Lunch will be provided. We will be working on projects in various buildings, but we will meet in the main Sanctuary.

The project list grows day by day. That list will be prioritized by me and will be delegated that day. I am hoping that with enough people, we can split up and be more productive that we were on the Gym Stage project. Please reply if you can come, even if you have to be late. Also, I would like to know your skills; electrical, construction, general, climbing in weird places to run wires, etc.

Please dress comfortably, but some of you may want to bring long pants and sleeves if you don't mind attics and crawl spaces. Also, please bring any safety gear you may want to wear. I have some extras, but not many. If you have your own tools (saws, drills, etc.) please bring them if you can. I recommend you mark anything cordless. I know that I have the same drill as the church does, and I don't want to mix them up. Same thing with batteries, etc.

In addition, I am looking for a little bit of "financial" help with these projects. I will be trying to keep them low- to no-cost when possible, but If you would like to donate lumber, supplies, or money, please contact me soon. We can arrange for you to drop off supplies, etc.

Thank you very much!
Stuart Mackey

The church needs your help!

Hello everyone,
Please check your calendars! I would like to schedule a work day for some construction and electrical work. The two tentative days are Saturday November 11, or Saturday, November 18. You don't have to be involved in tech to help! Nor strong! Appropriate work will be assigned.

The only potential conflicts are on the 11th is pecan unloading day and one of the projects is potentially in the gym. And on the 18th there is a wedding at 11 AM, but I don't know which building it is in. I have several projects in mind, and who and how many people will determine the projects that will be done. Please let me know which date (or if both are ok) is best for YOU ASAP.
Thanks,
... to glorify God through the creative use of the arts

Wednesday Night Notes:
If you haven't been to a Wednesday Night Service, I highly recommend it. It is a very different service than Sunday morning. It's even different from any other Wednesday before. If you would like to serve on Wednesday nights, but need time to eat. Come join Jeff, the praise team and me in the choir room for pizza before the service. I'd also like to use Wednesday as an opportunity for people to try new positions, assuming we have the right people.

I will be adding a "Notes" Section to the backs of all the binders, please check this section each week for changes to your equipment, protocols, and other notations. Please MAKE notes to this section if you change something.

Describe the circumstances as best possible so that I or another volunteer can avoid or correct the problem.

Technical Arts News for Aug 7 - Crew for Aug 13

News for this week

Reminder that we represent the church
I have recently received comments from several individuals from both inside and outside the team on the appearance and professionalism of our team.  As such, I want to re-address the expectations that I have for our team and ministry. Remember that when you come to serve, you are representing the Technical Arts Ministry of the church. Please dress appropriately for  ALL  church services (not just 9:30), so that you may serve in ANY position needed. Our mission is to glorify God through the creative use of the arts, and not to be a distraction with our appearance, behavior or gear.  This means:
  • Men - Closed toe shoes please  -  no flip flops
  • Men - Full length pants please - nshorts (men and ladies)
  • Polo or collared shirts preferred - no t-shirts with logos (use best judgment)
  • Put together appearance - not the "I just rolled out of bed" look
  • Please try your best to be on time, not only for the 7:30 call time, but between services as well.
New Rotation
The fall rotation is rapidly approaching and although I prefer not to move people from their team, it will be necessary this time in order to balance out the teams. Many of you are in Sunday School classes at 11:00, and so I have to make sure that I don't have an team of all people who can't work at 11:00, which "C" has become.    So I would like to ask a favor of  all who are on the e-mail list.  If you are currently not on a team, would like to serve at just 11:00 AM ? -OR-  Those who are already on a team, would you like to serve during your off weeks at 11:00 only?  Please let me know if you are interested in either of these options.

Before finalizing the new rotation, I also want to confirm current volunteer availability.  Please respond that your time available is correct:
  •  Volunteers-Captains (Every third week, 7:00 am - 12:15 pm)
    Jared, Katie, Jim
  • Volunteers-Full Time (Every week, 7:30 am - 12:15 pm)
    Rick, Jay
  • Volunteers (Every third week, 7:30 am- 12:15 pm)
    Ralph, Mike P., Andrew
  • Volunteers-Limited (Every third week, 7:30 am - 10:30 am)
Sue, Cory, Christian, Jason, Kathy, Michael, Mark
  • Volunteers-11:00 only

Technical Arts Picnic Review
For those of you who missed it, this past Sunday was the "Christmas In July" party. We all had a lot of fun eating a lot of food. Thank you to everyone who came and prepared a dish. We also talked about the future of Technical Arts. Several priorities were brought up that need to be improved or addressed;
  1. Awareness of Technical Arts - People need to know what Tech Arts is and what is it's purpose; what do we do. People who are regular attendees are still surprised to find we record our services on video every week. I will be writing a full page for the church newsletter this month, and putting copies of the Technical arts Brochure on the media cart, and at the entrance to the booth.
  2. More and expanded training - I challenged volunteers to step out in faith and learn new tasks, and to make efforts to improve the skills they have. Beginning immediately, I invite anyone, especially those who are scheduled this Sunday, to come to Choir rehearsal Wednesday at 7:30 pm. You can try out roles you haven't before, and practice new techniques. I will bee here every week.
  3. Fundraising/Equipment - We are at a kind of ceiling right now with the equipment we have, but I can see that all of you have grown immensely, and now feel limited by the gear we have. I haven't run anything by leadership, trustees, etc, but I want to meet with anyone who feels called to chair/steer a Fundraiser Committee. Several ideas on how to have one were discussed this past Sunday. Call me or e-mail me if you feel God nudging you to assist with this effort.
New Rotation
There was some confusion at the picnic about the rotation. The new rotation will begin the first Sunday of September (Sept 3, Team B). Current rotation will continue until then. ATTENTION INACTIVE VOLUNTEERS! If you are not currently on a rotation team, please e-mail or call me to join one. We need help. Your commitment is only once every third week.

Thank you all for serving!
-Stuart

I'm sorry for the late notice, but tonight, Wednesday June 21, at 7:30, is an optional rehearsal for anyone on crew. I STRONGLY recommend directors to be here. Training Opportunity

Starting Tonight, I will be at all Wednesday night rehearsals. ANYONE who wants to come and sharpen their skills by practicing during Jeff's rehearsal can come. It's not required, but RSVP if you are coming. I again STRONGLY recommend any directors to come so that they can here the songs and start to think about how they want to light or shoot it.

Summer Projects

Summer seems to be the only time when I can organize time for special projects. I'd like you help to pick thee projects you think are most important. The first one I have scheduled. I would like to re-aim and change gels on the back lights (above the choir) on June 25, at 1:00 pm. I have already bought some gel colors. Lighting people, please ask to look at them and give me your impressions/suggestions.
Other possible projects I like to see us work on this summer are, in no particular order:
  • Re-aim/gel front colors
  • Build shelves/organize north mechanical room/closet.
  • re-run cam 2 lines (so intercom and camera run together. We'll have to do this before we get the new intercom).
  • Re-run/troubleshoot Projector lines/scan line (goes well with above project).
  • Re-run coax feeds to S-1, S-4, Narthex (future), and Pastor's Study TVs.
  • Put away old riser that is buy lighting board.
  • Build shelves/organize under north stair well.
Feel free to suggest more projects.

Here is the crew for Sunday. Katie and Sue switched, so Sue will be here instead. NOTE: I will only need a couple of you for the 9:30. The Children's ministry is performing a musical that is the whole service, and they are "Tech" for everything except Video Director. (Also, Rick and Sue, you can switch if you want.)

If anyone wants to learn a new position at 8 or 11, this would be a good week for "apprentices." I.E., if you want to learn lights instead of run camera.

Attention Volunteers

Hey all you in-active people on this e-mail list!
We need your help! Every Sunday a very dedicated crew comes in and runs the three services. It takes 8 people to fully staff the tech crew each week. And right now we average 6. Please come to the booth some Sunday and check us out! The commitment is for three months, once every three weeks. That only comes to 5 TURNS! Come on, YOU CAN DO IT! It's easy to trade on weeks when you're gone. E-mail me if you have questions.

Also consider serving at our CD sale cart, or making CD copies on Sunday mornings. Its easy!

Active Volunteers!
To all of you on rotation, you are probably waiting to see if I get the new rotation published on time this quarter. Well, I plan to, but I need your help! Teams are growing, and I hope they continue to grow. But I don't feel like they are very well-balanced, skill wise, so I have a few questions for you:
  • What is your favorite crew position?
  • What is your least-favorite crew position?
  • What position do you feel you are best at?
  • What position do you feel you are worst at (out of the positions you've done)?
  • What position(s) have you never (or rarely) done, and would like to try?
Please e-mail me

Creative Help for July 2

Our special "Independence Day" celebration will be on July 2nd this year, and I need your help to make it even better than the last. The day will be full of special events, including:
* the music ministry's "The Torch is Passed" performance
* the start of a new series focusing on "heritage"
* a church-wide PICNIC!

Not only will we need extra crew that day, but I need your help NOW with designing creative elements for the service, including graphics, lyric illustrations, videos, props, decorations, etc. To help get your creative juices flowing, CDs of the music are available in the booth. Please pick one up, listen to it and jot down your ideas.

Then on Monday, MAY 15th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, we will meet in the sanctuary (S-1&2) to put together our ideas and do some brainstorming as a whole team.  if you can't make it that day, feel free to e-mail me your suggestions. Follow-up meetings are tentative for May 29, and June 19.

Thanks in advance for your help with this! You are the best volunteers in the world!
